What role are you best suited for?

Our KPC Team consists of a number of positions that work cooperatively to provide programs and services to our paddling community. You can apply for more than one position, and you may be offered hours in different positions even though you have been hired for a specific role.

Kelowna Paddle Centre positions are dependant on Canada Summer Jobs (CSJ) funding opportunities. Positions made available through the CSJ program will need to adhere to CJS rules and regulations.

Hourly Wage: $19.50

Hours per Week: 40 hours

 

The Camp Coordinator at the Kelowna Paddle Centre will be responsible for a diverse range of duties aimed at enhancing the quality of experience for our participants. 

 

  • Program Planning: Develop and plan summer camp programs that cater to a variety of skill levels and interests. Ensure that camps provide significant opportunities for participants to learn, develop, and practice paddling skills. 
  • Supervision: Supervise and manage youth participants to provide a safe and enjoyable environment for all. Ensure that staff members are effectively guiding and mentoring participants. 
  • Staff Management: Train summer camp staff. Coordinate staff schedules, assign duties, and address any issues or conflicts that may arise. 
  • Skill Development: Facilitate sessions aimed at enhancing individual skills and promoting teamwork among the youth. 
  • Inclusion: Ensure the camp is inclusive and accessible to youth with varying capabilities and those who may face unique barriers. Implement initiatives that promote diversity and inclusion. 
  • Resource Management: Manage all resources including the allocation, utilization, and procurement of equipment and supplies needed for the summer camp. 
  • Communication: Regularly communicate with parents or guardians about changes to programming, upcoming camp events and paddle centre offerings. 
  • Evaluation & Feedback: Conduct regular evaluations of camp programs and staff performance. Collect feedback from parents & participants and make changes as necessary to improve the program. 
  • Budget Management: Oversee the camp’s budget, ensuring funds are properly allocated and used efficiently. 
  • Safety: Maintain safety standards in all camp activities and facilities. Ensure first aid and safety training is completed by staff and ensure they follow safety guidelines. 
  • Outreach & Marketing: Oversee promotional projects and outreach initiatives to attract participants to the summer camp. 
  • Reporting: Report to upper management about camp operations, including participant progress, staff performance, budgeting, and any incidents or issues.
  • Crisis Management: Prepare for and handle any emergencies or crises efficiently and effectively to ensure the safety and welfare of all staff and participants.

Hourly Wage: $17.75

The Camp Leader at the Kelowna Paddle Centre will be responsible for a diverse range of duties aimed at enhancing the quality of experience for our participants. 

  • Directing and Planning: Organize and plan camp activities that provide quality, hands-on experience for youth. This involves coming up with innovative, outdoor physical activities that cater to the interests and abilities of our diverse youth demographic. 
  • Teaching and Skill Building: Foster the development of competencies in areas such as teamwork, leadership, communication, and physical literacy. Personal and group paddling instruction will be a significant aspect of the skill-building process. 
  • Inclusion and Accessibility: Recognizing and responding to the unique barriers faced by some youth, strive to improve their access to learning. This entails cultivating an inclusive and respectful camp environment that promotes participation and mitigates obstacles. 
  • Camp Operation Supervision: Maintain the high standards of operations at the camp. This encompasses ensuring the adherence to safety regulations, effectively managing resources, and addressing any issues that may arise. 
  • Networking and Partnership Building: With a view to bridging the gap between novice youth paddlers and advanced competitive athletes, establish and nurture connections with families and the paddle centre. Promote opportunities such as workshops, open days to expose campers to the paddling community. 
  • Evaluation and Reporting: Monitoring and evaluating the effectiveness of camp activities in relation to set objectives is a crucial part of the role. Camp Leaders will need to track progress, compile reports on outcomes, and use these insights for refining future camp operations.
  • Paddle Centre Promotion: Actively engage in promoting the Paddle Centre within the local community, aiming to increase visibility, public interest, and enrolment rates.

Hourly Wage: $18.00

Hours per Week: 30 – 40 hours

 

  • Reception Management: The front desk manager is primarily responsible for managing the reception area, greeting guests and members, answering phone calls and emails, and providing necessary information to the public. 
  • Membership Processing: The front desk manager oversees the registration process of new members. This involves verifying submitted documents, ensuring registration fees are paid, and updating the membership database regularly. 
  • Booking and Scheduling: This includes managing boat and equipment rentals, scheduling paddle lessons and training sessions, and organizing event bookings. The front desk manager must adeptly use the scheduling software to keep the center’s activities organized and prevent overbooking.
  • Communication: The front desk manager acts as the communication liaison between the members, the staff, and the management.  
  • Records Management: This involves keeping accurate records of all transactions, bookings, registration and memberships. The front desk manager must also be responsible for maintaining a database of all members and visitors, and keeping track of their activity at the center. 
  • Administrative Duties: The front desk manager handles various tasks such as ordering supplies, managing lost and found items, and keeping the reception area neat and tidy. 
  • Financial Duties: The manager handles all financial transactions at the front desk. This includes membership fees, rental payments and visitor transactions. 
  • Staff Supervision: The front desk manager may also be required to oversee and schedule the tasks of other staff or volunteers, ensuring a smooth operation at the reception. 
  • Maintaining Health and Safety: In the context of the paddling center, the front desk manager may also have to ensure that all health and safety standards are met, including checking equipment safety, and enforcing safety protocols. 
  • Promoting Services: The front desk manager plays a critical role in promoting the center’s programs and services to prospective members and the public. They should have a solid understanding of the center’s offerings and be able to articulate them clearly.
  • Crisis Management: In the event of any emergency at the center, the front desk manager would be one of the first people to respond, ensuring that proper protocol is followed to ensure the safety of everyone.

Hourly Wage: $16.75

  • Administration Duties: As a Front Desk Clerk, the individual will be in charge of basic administrative tasks such as entering data, managing files, and updating paperwork. They will also liaise with other staff to ensure smooth operation of the center. 
  • Customer Service: The front desk clerk will likely be the first point of contact for customers, both in person and on the telephone. They will need to have excellent communication skills, provide information about the center and its programs, and ensure high levels of customer satisfaction. 
  • Membership/Program Enquiries: They will handle all inquiries regarding membership and programs, explain the benefits and costs, assist in the registration process, and maintain the member database up to date.
  • Financial Transactions: The front desk clerk will be responsible for processing financial transactions, including membership fees, program registrations, equipment rentals, and merchandise sales. 
  • Facility Upkeep: They would ensure that the front desk and facility area are clean and welcoming for the visitors. This might include cleaning bathrooms and offices, maintaining brochures, and bulletin boards. 
  • Safety and Security: It would be their responsibility to monitor guest access, ensuring only authorized personnel get access to the facilities. Also, observe the facility’s safety protocols and ensure emergency procedures are clearly understood and followed. 
  • Resource Management: The front desk clerk will be responsible for ensuring all equipment and resources are in good working order, properly stored, and accounted for.
  • Promotions: They may be asked to assist with promotional activities, such as distributing flyers or setting up display stands about upcoming events or programs.

Hourly Wage: $20.00

  • Training and Instruction: The coach is responsible for planning and executing the training of the paddlers. This involves creating a comprehensive lesson plan designed to strengthen the participants paddling skills. This includes teaching new techniques, improving existing skills, encouraging physical fitness, analyzing the performance, and suggesting improvements. 
  • Safety Management: A key responsibility of a paddling coach is to ensure the safety of the paddlers. Coaches must ensure that all equipment is in good working order and that all safety protocols are observed. This includes conducting regular safety drills and ensuring that all paddlers are proficient. 
  • Performance Evaluation: Coaches must consistently monitor and evaluate the performance of paddlers. This entails assessing each paddler’s aptitude and fitness level, observing their on-water performance, and providing constructive feedback to enhance their abilities. 
  • Event Preparation: A coach must prepare the team for various competitions and recreational events. This might include explaining the rules and strategy, ensuring athletes are mentally and physically prepared, and obtaining any necessary permissions and paperwork for the event. 
  • Equipment Management: A crucial part of a coach’s role is the management of the paddling equipment. Coaches ensure equipment is safely stored, maintained, and replaced if necessary. 
  • Professional Development: A coach needs to stay up-to-date with the latest coaching techniques, safety protocols, and any changes to the rules of the sport. 
  • Goal Setting: A paddling coach must help the participants set and achieve their goals. This process involves identifying attainable goals, creating a plan to achieve them, and providing the support and motivation needed to hit these targets.
  • Promotions: They may be asked to assist with promotional activities, such as distributing flyers or setting up display stands about upcoming events or programs.

Hourly Wage: $18.00

Being an administrative assistant in a paddle centre requires a balance of administrative proficiency, community outreach, and passion for water sports and recreational activities. Every day can bring new challenges, but it also provides an opportunity to contribute to community wellness and growth. 

  • Administrative Support: Provide administrative support to ensure efficient operation of the office. Answer phone calls, schedule meetings, and support visitors. 
  • Communication: Handle organizational correspondence, respond to emails and interface with members. 
  • Record Keeping: Maintain detailed and accurate records of memberships, participants in programs and events, donor databases, and other files as needed. 
  • Scheduling: Coordinate events, schedule classes and workshops, manage bookings and ensure efficient use of facilities. 
  • Member Services: Assist with registration for memberships and programs, respond to members’ inquiries, and ensure excellent customer service. 
  • Event Coordination: Assist in planning, organizing, and executing events such as competitions, excursions, and community gatherings. 
  • Vendor & Supplier Communication: Liaise with local businesses and suppliers for event preparations, equipment maintenance, and other needed resources. 
  • Marketing: Support promotional activities, manage social media platforms, update the organization’s website, and distribute newsletters. 
  • Partnerships & Collaborations: Coordinate with local networks, community-based organizations and local tourism boards to facilitate partnerships. 
  • Reporting: Prepare regular reports on organization activities, finances, and other important data. 
  • Health & Safety: Monitor facility cleanliness and safety, and coordinating necessary maintenance or repairs. 
  • Inventory Management: Oversee the center’s equipment and supplies, maintain inventory records, and order new supplies as required.
